Sonic Chorizo, #57
Derby Birthday: January 31, 2015
Hometown: Bremerton, WA
What is the significance of your name and number?
Sonic is because I sing and am in 2 choirs (at my school and church). Also, I grew up with SEGA and my main hedgehog Sonic. Chorizo is a spicy pork sausage and I make my own homemade. Additionally, I can’t whistle, but I can make a pretty good pig noise.
I’ve always liked the number 57 but I didn’t know why. It wasn’t until another skater asked me my number so he could write it on my arm, and to remind himself he said he would think of the ketchup Heinz 57. I love ketchup, so much that I make my own, so 57 fits.
How did you get involved with roller derby?
My exposure to derby prior to getting involved with it was basically nonexistent. I had watched the movie Whip It, but that was about it. One day, my husband and I went to A&W in Port Orchard, where I found a flyer for NDC’s intern program. I joined, and loved it, and kept coming back for more.
Tell us a fun fact about you!
I enjoy hiking, camping, and backpacking.
